Well at least its handy, all-in-one device.......

Plus the backup power feature is a good idea, but the amount of power it offers (in terms of run time) is not all that great. It's pretty good for an ipod, but I was only able to get about 10 minutes of run time on an iphone. I suppose it could be a good item to have for that emergency phone call that you have to make when your battery is low/dead, but other than that, it's not of major use.

If you remember to bring it along and keep it charged, it could be a handy gadget to have in an emergency. Honestly, I like the item enough to give it 3 stars when factoring in things like cost (too much - sadly), conception (good try - much like the IPOD it services, it took a few tries to build the beast correctly), and trying to build something people could use. Given the price though I don't see it being a good value.

I wasn't exactly how useful this device would prove to be for me.    I don't have an iphone, but if I did, I would like the added battery power feature, because with my regular phone, I've been in the situation more than once where I'm about to lose power or have left the house with it already dead.    So, back to me. ....but falls short in my opinion unless you're an iPhone owner. Although it certainly works fine with my iPod, power with regard to music probably does not constitute an emergency (in most circles). I can certainly see the worth, however, in being stranded with a only a dead iPhone and this nifty little gadget to keep you company. Definitely a useful thing to have, but limited in its functionality and usefulness unless, again, you're an iPhone owner.      DYB

The most impressive use of this little device for me so far has been as a 2GB USB drive, which is substantially more storage space than any of the flash drives I had around before and has proven very handy for moving movies and other large files from PC to Mac. Of all the possible uses for this device, the best one is as an emergency power back-up to an iphone. My husband used it when his iphone ran low, and he got about twenty minutes of good use out of it.    I tried it with my ipod, which I purposely didn't recharge just to see how it would fare. As an IT professional, I have an interest in gadgets like the Macally PowerLink Emergency Battery Pack. On the surface, this seems like a cool accessory to own, and offers more versatility than just a plain flash drive.    As a flash drive, 2GB is small by today's standards. This seems like one of those clever inventions that perfectly satisfies a certain set of needs that many iPod and iPhone users are likely to feel. For those users it will be indispensible. I have mixed feelings about this product. It offers a few benefits, but none are really compelling reasons to justify the cost.    The best-functioning feature is the ability to use it as a USB flash drive. Get Extra Power Away from Home
Take PowerLink with you for emergency power for your iPhone or iPod with 30-pin dock connector. It's easy to use: Just connect PowerLink to your iPhone/iPod, and switch on PowerLink's power. PowerLink boasts a 270mAh Lithium-Ion battery that provides 500mA powering current to the iPhone or iPod. That's equal to about 25 minutes of talk time on an iPhone.
