Magic Kingdom - The First Disney World Park

Cinderella Castle at the Magic Kingdom in Disney World
The Magic Kingdom started it all at Disney World, opening on October 1st,1971.

This is the place where everyone is a kid again and the imagination reigns supreme.

The folks at Disney excel at storytelling and this place is an example of some of their finest work. The level of detail that went into each land and attraction, assures the visitors that they can successfully escape reality and enjoy their day in this very special place.

You enter onto the welcoming mythical Main Street and shortly come face to face with the iconic Cinderella Castle. Then you must choose which of the six lands you wish to visit first: Tomorrowland, Mickey’s Toontown Fair, Fantasyland, Liberty Square, Frontierland, or Adventureland.

Each of the lands have attractions that people include on their can’t miss list.

Tomorrowland
This land started as a vision of the world yet to come, but was later re-imagineered to eternally be the 1950’s view of what the future would look like. This whimsical vision of the future doesn’t have to worry about keeping pace with each new leap forward in modern day technology.

Although many view Space Mountain as their favorite attraction in this land, I always look forward to Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin and the Tomorrowland Transit Authority.

Mickey's Towntown Fair
More so than any other land in the Magic Kingdom, this is geared towards the youngest of the visitors. It is also probably the best place for character interaction, including meeting Mickey himself.

My favorite attraction here would have to be Goofy’s Barnstorming Rollercoaster as I have great memories of taking my children on their first mini-Roller Coaster experience here.

Fantasyland
This land pays tribute to some of Disney’s greatest animated movies and characters with attractions for: Snow White, Peter Pan, Winnie the Pooh, Dumbo, and Mickey Mouse. It is also home to one of the most loved and hated attractions ever, It’s A Small World.

I would say that my current favorite in this land is Mickey’s Philharmagic. It is one of the best done 4-D (3-D plus extra effects) movies that I have ever seen. It is a must do attraction during each visit.

Liberty Square
The early American colonial times are represented here. The main attractions are the Hall of Presidents and the Haunted Mansion.

I would have to say that my favorite attraction in this land is the Hall of Presidents. The audio animatronics are amazing, even to this day.

Frontierland
Frontierland pays homage to the old west and contains two of the Magic Kingdom’s three Mountains – Splash Mountain and Thunder Mountain Railroad.

My favorite would be the Thunder Mountain Railroad, which is a roller coaster, based upon a run away train through an old west mining town.

Adventureland
You are transported to a tropical place inhabited by Pirates, wild animals, talking birds, & a spitting camel. The key attractions are: Pirates of the Caribbean, Jungle Cruise, Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse, Enchanted Tiki Room, and Aladdin’s Magic Carpet Ride.

Although the Pirates of the Caribbean is the most famous attraction, my kids are always interested in visiting the Swiss Family Robinson Tree House.

The Magic Kingdom Is Truly Magical
This is certainly the place that exudes the magic that people associate with Disney. In additional to the attractions there are two different parades per day and a magnificent fireworks show called “Wishes” to cap off each night.

Generations of families have memories that last a lifetime from their visits to this truly Magic Kingdom.

Thanks for sharing and nice review. I have been to Anaheim about 5 times and Orlando about 10 times. Usually I go for someone else (spouse, child ,friend ) as I am more a Disney Hollywood person (Love Aerosmith, Tower of Terror, et al). This park was ok when it first opened in the 1950's in Anaheim but started to get old by the time it opened in Orlando. The updated Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Carribean are the only things from this park that hold any interest for me and I could happily go through life if I were never again to be subjected to a chorus of It's a Small World.

Any visit to Disney must be planned well in advance.

I used to think Disneyland was the greatest theme park on Earth...until I went to Disney World in Florida for my honeymoon. OMG! You need weeks to see everything there. I had four days... :( I want to go back some day! This was a fun review, though. I get to go to Disneyland more often because I have tons of family in the LA area. We always seem to go there at least one day when I'm down visiting!

Nice overview of the Magic Kingdom, Jamie!  One of my best friends lives not too far away from it, so I'm going to try to experience this for myself the next time I'm down there!  Do you go to Disney World often?  You seem like you do :P  I would love to hear some insider tips on the creme de la creme spots to visit! :)

My first time here was actually in 1985! It was New Year's Eve & that was so fun watching the countdown right in front of the Cinderella castle! Been back quite a few times since. Still enjoyed Epcot more than Magic Kingdom :-)

What? That is blasphemy! How can you say that? Before you riot against me and boycott the site let me explain... One thing I have learned over the years from being a parent and from having a very strong willed little princess is how to keep the peace. We joke all the time and actually found a shirt that says "Irish Temper Italian Attitude". That about sums up our little one :) So when planning our Disney vacations I have learned one valuable lesson that if your a parent it would be wise …

We love Walt Disney World for attractions, resorts, restaurants, characters and more. But for many of us who return time after time, there is always something a little less travelled at the "World" enhancing the overall Disney experience and drawing us back. This story is about some of the lesser known or frequented Disney magic that makes our vacations truly special or unique, and which takes us off the beaten path at Walt Disney World.   Today we take a walk down Main Street, …

Back to the Future:   The New "Old" Mickey Mouse Watches   at Walt Disney World Main Street Watches   We returned this weekend from our trip to Walt Disney World. I have about 1500 photographs and two dozen videos to index, sort and prepare for use in stories for the "A World View" blog. But one set of pictures are of a new Disney Parks product line recently introduced at D23 and which arrived at Walt Disney World for display and sale …

The most magical moment at the Magic Kingdom is when the clock strikes twelve on New Year's Day! Simply mesmerizing; like a dream comes true
