3.5-Familiar Office programs that you know and (hopefully) love

Office 2008 is a big improvement over its previous version. Easier groupings with the toolbox and better spelling, grammar, and fragmented sentence corrections.

Others has said that H&S is the cheapest of the versions out there and their right. You get Word, Excel, Power Point, Messenger, and Entourage (Like Outlook). You also can install it on 3 different computers. If you get your email from an Exchange server, this version of Office will not work for you. Entourage in the H&S edition doesn't support exchange. You will have to get one of the more expensive versions of Office, their Entourage does support Exchange. The Messenger for Mac doesn't support video chat. This is disappointing since iChat doesn't support MSN.

Another downside of this excellent product is it's startup time. It is by far the slowest thing to open on my MacBook Pro. Photoshop, InDesign, and other large programs start up faster than Word or Excel. Although I have to say that once they are started they don't seem to pull too much of my system resources.

This is a big improvement over previous versions of Microsoft Office for MAC. The interface is easy to use. I particularly like the option of either having the side window or the tools on the top of the document page.

Technologically speaking, we have an ecumenical household... Windows Vista on one desk and Mac Panther on the other. So I thought that upgrading the Mac to Mac Office 2008 would be a cinch. After all, the results of the Vista/Office 2007 upgrade were so "interesting" why should the Apple side of the house not be offered the same challenge?    It installed on the iMac with minimal trouble, but maximum time. Apparently Microsoft's Macintosh department is as feverishly obsessed …

I'm not a Microsoft fan, but the reality is that I sometimes need Office software. Yes, I use Open Office (especially as they now have a native Mac version), and Google Docs, but sometimes I need the real thing. I wish that were not so, but there it is.    The installation probably has more "Continue" buttons than any other piece of software I have ever installed. No hope for "I'll just go have coffee while this installs"; no, you need to keep clicking buttons. It's not because …
