Sleeping through the night? No problem!

My husband and I welcomed our first child, a son, into the world seven months ago.  We spent a few extra days in the hospital due to my c-section, so we had a few extra days of preparation and of course, help was just a call switch away!  However, when we got home and our sweet, sleepy boy "woke up" out of his newborn slumber, we were in for it.  For the next eight weeks, I got up with him EVERY. TWO. HOURS.  My husband helped as he could, but because he works outside of the home, much of the responsibility fell upon me.  I love my son, but this was excruciating.  I was recovering from surgery, getting used to being a new mom, and battling post-partum depression. The lack of sleep was killing me.

By the eighth week, I had had it.  I decided to go to a special children's boutique (one which sold cribs that cost more than my first car) and picked up the pricey Miracle Blanket.  I had read reviews online and had heard that it was excellent. I was willing to try anything because as I said...up EVERY. TWO. HOURS!

The first night we swaddled the young man in this blanket he slept a five hour stretch! It was like Christmas! By the next night, it was eight hours! By the third night and continuing on for the duration of our use of the blanket, this little boy slept for ten hour stretches per night.  He was well-rested, I regained my sanity and life went on happily.

The Miracle Blanket is fabulous because of its design.  Most swaddling blankets are just square blankets - they work at first, generally, but our son, like many other children, was strong and broke out of his swaddle.  The problem with this is that newborns have a "startle reflex" - their arms and hands move involuntarily and can startle them awake. The Miracle Blanket solves this problem by adding an extra flap of material to secure the arms with before wrapping the rest of the body.  It also includes a foot pouch to keep baby cozy and secure - remember, they are used to being cocooned inside of Mom for nine months - the outside world is scary at first! At any rate, between these two features and the fact that the Miracle Blanket is shaped differently than any other swaddling blanket, it is much more conducive to baby getting his proper sleep, and Mom and Dad getting their sleep as well!

I highly recommend this product to any new parent - it is an absolute lifesaver and I wish I could still use it with my son, alas, he is too big for it now!

Great review! I'm an expert swaddler (I like to think it has something to do with making tamales as a child) but this sounds efficient and easy. I'll keep it in mind for the next baby shower I go to. Thanks!
