“Mirror Mirror”….
…On the wall – who’s the fairest of them all?” Why, we all know it is Julia Roberts, even though she is the Bad Queen in this movie!! Lol – really, according to the old tale it is Snow White of course – because she ends up with the Prince!
This is not a review of the movie but rather of the sounds that make the movie come to life. I am one who owns soundtracks to many great movies and I’ll wager most people watching movies are not really tuned in to the music behind the scenes unless they are watching a musical with singing and dancing. The next time you attend a movie be attuned to the background music as well – and think how boring the movie might be without it. You’ll also be surprised when you re-watch a movie with this in mind that you might not have even noticed the first time that there was music!
This CD is the original soundtrack from the 2012 remake of “Mirror Mirror” featuring Julia Roberts (Pretty Woman) as the Evil Queen and Lily Collins (Abduction) as Snow White. The composer of 15 tracks is Alan Menken, http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0579678/ who has 8 Oscars to his credit, 35 wins for various other awards and numerous nominations. He also was the composer behind “The Little Mermaid” and “Aladdin”. His compositions are musical miracles that please the ear and give life to movies.
The remaining two tracks were composed by Nina Hart (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/03/30/mir...-in-love_n_1387609.html)* Sam Hollander (“Thirteen” and “Supersize Me”) and Tarsam Singh (“Immortals” and “The Fall”), performed to perfection by Lily Collins and is an upbeat catchy tune named “I Believe in Love”.
The orchestra is the Northwest Sinfonia based in Seattle and best known for recording soundtracks for many movies: “The Men Who Stare at Goats”, “Rambo”, “Valkyrie” and “Brokeback Mountain” to name only a few. They also perform on television series and computer and video games. The Northwest Sinfonia brings to life the musical scores by the composers and takes you into the movies scene by scene.
There is no doubt when you are listening to “The Ball”, “Dueling” or the “Mannequin Attack” that these scenes in the movie are actually taking place. Anyone who has seen and loved “Fantasia” will be able to relate to the scores as you hear them from “Mirror Mirror”.
“Mirror Mirror” can be purchased at most online e-stores such as Amazon and iTunes as well as many major and smaller independent music stores – just look in the Soundtrack section.
