Cool Camera, but tough to get it working on all browsers :(

I bought this camera a couple days ago from Costco for $199.  After just seeing it on Amazon for $269, i'm really happy with the deal i got!!

I have it sitting in my kitchen window (it's an only an interior camera) so i can check the surf from the office or my iphone.  It's really cool for that and it works pretty well.  The adjustments for interior/exterior and even night vision work pretty well. (Night vision only works inside the house... and it makes people look really scary... like Blair Witch Project scary).  From the browser while viewing, you can remotely pan and swivel it which allows me to turn it to see the interior of my house or aim it outside see the water as well as pan and tilt to check out my neighbor's houses too... yeah... a little creepy.

Setting it up:  The set up process is easy if you follow the directions as long as you ONLY USE INTERNET EXPLORER.  I wasted 45 mins trying to get the thing working on Firefox and Chrome first and i couldn't figure it out.  Then i wasted another 30 mins trying to get working Safari on a Mac... no dice there either.  Side note: i didn't realize that you can't download IE on a Mac, so this camera is pretty much useless for me on a Mac.  I'm sure a Mac afficianado could figure it out, but two of us tried for a while with zero success.

It works really well on the iPhone safari browser which is super cool.

Here's what annoying about this product.
  1. They only give you 30 days of free upgrade then they try to sign you up for a $25/year subscription.  It's fine to pay a premium for certain services, but they do a terrible job explaining what is free and what i have to pay for going forward. It really leaves a bad taste because you feel like you're being hoodwinked due to the way they message it on the website and the lack of messaging on the box when you buy it.
  2. On the package it really calls out all the browsers as being compatible but it's really hard to get all of them working so to me they aren't all supported.

All in all, i'm pretty happy with this toy so far and especially happy with the price i got a got it for from Costco (one more reason to love costco)
