A Quick Tip by woopak_the_thrill

After Natalie Portman received high acclaim for "Black Swan", I am truly dumbfounded how her follow up would be this film and "Your Highness". However, I have to say while I knew where this movie was going when I saw the trailers, I thought it was pretty fun. There really isn't much for me to say about this film so I'll stick to a quick tip.

Portman plays Emma and she is not into relationships and Kutcher plays Adam, an aspiring script writer who becomes her friend and her lover. Some elements weren't exactly too clear to me, but I have to admit the idea of being  'sex buddies' have always been in the back of the mind of any male, as a huge fantasy.

The film communicates the link between sex and love and while I see its points, it was very predictable. I know it was real in the sense that sex complicates matters, and sex can create love; but if you look closely, they've always been attracted to each other, so their attraction blossomed into love through sex.

I have yet to see a truly bold depiction of this concept but I liked this for what it was. A comedy that is intended as a crowd-pleaser. Portman carries the film's burden and gives a truly impressive emotional performance. It was enough to cover up the weaknesses of the plot and the stereotypes of characterization. I do think that Kutcher and Portman fail to connect, but Natalie was just so talented that I managed to turn a blind eye to Ashton's stereotypical delivery of dialogue.

All in all, a fine film for a rental and if you're a fan of Portman, may be worth keeping. [3.5 Out of 5 Stars]

You're very generous Woopak. I watched this for free & still felt like I'd lost nearly two hours of my life. I found it very cliche and typical. Natalie Portman is capable of doing much better films & I can't imagine why she felt the need to do this one. If you liked this one, I actually thought Love and Other Drugs was much better honestly even though the themes are almost identical.

I like both Portman and Anne Hathaway so it's easy to cast my vote on anything they make and possibly even rank their efforts than others in some respects. Trust me, I'm in no position to judge. ;-)

I too thought this was funnier than expected. This is really thanks to Portman. Kutcher can do cute and corny, which fortunately this film calls for. He was laughable at the climax of the film but I forgive him .. and besides, Portman was there to catch his fall.

Star Rating:         What No Strings Attached lacks in originality and unpredictability is made up for in the charm and likeability of its leads. Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman not only have great onscreen chemistry, they also are individually well developed – at least, as well developed as they can be within the boundaries of a romantic comedy. It’s also surprisingly funny, although it’s only partly because of the well placed raunchy sex jokes; …

Ivan Reitman, the director known for his long collaboration with Bill Murray, gave me enough reasons to worry about this flick only by the look of the trailer. No Strings Attached looked just like another cheap and average romantic comedy full of glam scenes and cliches. Is it the case here? Yes, it probably is. But something changed my judgment on this movie right after I left the theater. I said to myself: "wait a minute, this movie ain't that bad so I need to …

I'm not a fan of romantic comedies, I loathe Ashton Kutcher, and I find most Hollywood films to be fairly predictable and dull... yet for some reason (Natalie Portman) I almost liked this film. The keyword (other than Natalie Portman) being 'almost'.   What works in this film (Natalie Portman) is that the characters are surprisingly charming despite their predictability. And I found myself attracted to (Natalie Portman) them for a number of reasons, mostly because they're …
