The other day I was browsing through my local Nordstrom and came across a Marc Jacobs key pouch that I, well, just had to have. Unfortunately, this Nordstrom only had a white one, which I didn't want because I thought it would get dirty. I explained my dilemma to the woman behind the counter and immediately she had a solution for me. Within minutes she ordered me the same key pouch in black, which would be delivered to my door in under a week. This all happened on a Thursday afternoon, and before I knew it, the next Monday morning, my brand new shiny, leather key pouch was delivered to me - without paying for shipping.
I had a similarly pleasant experience trying to find a pair of sunglasses. I was looking for the new Ray-Ban Jackie O glasses in red and had already checked two Sunglass Hut stores and a Solistice store and could not find them. Nordstrom had them in black and, once again, ordered the red ones for me within minutes. Within two businesses days, the red pair managed to find its way to my doorstep - without paying for shipping.
But my all-time favorite Nordstrom experience was when I took back a Michael Kors watch that I had broken in many tiny little pieces and a pair of Marc Jacobs sunglasses that once again, I had broken, and had them replaced free of charge. To go along with my stories, I have heard mutiple stories about people returning gifts after years without any questions asked and even returning worn merchandise.
Where can you get better customer service than that! I fully recognize that some of the merchandise at Nordstrom may be pricey. But the department store does a great job of carrying a variety of brands in a wide range of prices. They've got swaeters for under $30 in the Brass Plum section, but also carry Burberry and Roberto Cavalli dresses. Whenever I leave a Nordstrom store I'm always in a good mood, whether or not I found what I was looking for. And it's usually because of the customer service and overall pleasant atmosphere. I once went in and tried on maybe ten or twelve pairs of jeans and didn't buy a single one. But the salesperson helped me the entire time and didn't grunt once when I wasted an hour of her time. That doesn't happen in most stores - department or boutique. Nordstrom is defintely a department store, in every aspect of the term. Although they do carry a few boutique brands, if you are looking for a boutique this is not the place for you. But if you are looking for quality products with great customer service, Nordstrom is perfect.
Nordstrom is a department store. It has the department store feel and offers department store merchandise. The good: Pretty much carries everything but doesn't over do it. For some reason it's easier to locate the section you want at Nordstrom than some other department stores. You don't find yourself lost in a labyrinth of clothes trying to figure out if this is the right floor to find that perfect special occasion dress. Customer service is great. By this I … more
