Decent little beard and mustache trimmer.

The Philips Norelco Qt4070/41 Turbo Vacuum Beard, Stubble and Mustache Trimmer Pro, first of all ... has a really long name. =) Second of all, it was pure serendipity that this product came up for review for me when it did, because my Wahl beard and mustache trimmer had just started to go bad on me, and I was getting ready to buy a new one, and I was considering an all-in-one unit like this one, anyway. Like I said, serendipity.

Right away, I will say that the vacuum feature is a gimmick, and it doesn't work that well. If you have over a day's worth of stubble, forget about it. You will end up with hairs on the counter and in the sink, as per usual. The vacuum just isn't that powerful. Also, if you decide to trim a really long beard into a fairly short beard, same problem, the vacuum isn't powerful enough to contain that volume and length of hairs. Even when you are using the trimmer daily to trim basically tiny amounts of hairs, you will still see hairs in the sink, etc. So, it is a gimmick, but so what? How does it actually perform?

It performs beautifully! I have a full beard (except for the neck), which I like to keep about 3 millimeters longer than "stubble." I have been using this thing for weeks now, and it does a darn good job, and it does it fairly fast, too. I can generally trim an area with only a couple of passes.

Now, as for the life of the unit, and when it will start pinching/pulling hairs (even with regular maintenance), I can't say. But I can say that the length dial works, and the blades cut quick and clean, and the unit holds a battery charge fairly well.
