Where "Pierced" is an excellent novel and could be read as a stand alone, it is a follow up to the author's "Burned."
Many of the characters are carried over from one story to another and part of the protagonist's drive is to find out who was responsible for setting a fire to his flat and causing the death of his six-year-old son.
I think readers who read "Burned" first and then "Pierced" will enjoy both books and enjoy "Pierced" even more, by knowing more of the background by reading "Burned."
