Oh, the Iron-y

Sports drinks are only good for one thing.  No, it isn't replenishing electrolytes after a long and sweaty werk...workoo...what is that thing called that you do so that you can drink more and not get fat?  Oh yeah, Workout.

No, sports drinks are only used in my household (of one) to recover from hangovers.  So when I found out that one had become available so that you could also recover from hangovers without getting fat, you can bet I was all over it.  The morning that I had a wicked hangover from too much red wine and Jim Beam (yes, this was an amateur mistake and I am ashamed) I was craving red Powerade and picked up one of these babies in Strawberry at the Viggo Mortensen Albertson's.

Lo and behold, it was gross.

I wanted RED POWERADE which means FRUIT PUNCH with dye so artificial it turns your pee orangey red (true!).  Instead I got syrupy diet STRAWBERRY flavor that was mostly water.  After a few sips it kind of grew on me, but it definitely did not satisfying my craving for hangover nutrients.  I haven't tried the other flavors and don't plan on it.

The irony behind this product is that it's "zero" but still has "electrolytes."  I've got some bad news for you, electrolytes have calories. Powerade Zero is not doing anything for you that you couldn't get for a lot cheaper from a glass of water and a multivitamin.

I was mostly intrigued by the colored byproduct of these sports drinks... Looks like I've got a new science project!
