Obama's Inauguration Speech

Did I like Obama's speech? Uh, no. I mean, I like the guy and all, but there was no bloviating, no, as my friend puts it, "soaring rhetoric."

To quote old school Link from the classic Legend of Zelda cartoons, "Well, excuuuuuuse me, princess," but I like soaring rhetoric. I LIKE meandering diatribes about "progress" and the pursuit of happiness in modern day America. I like all that bull crap, and quite frankly, Obama didn't deliver.

What he DID have to say though was a whole lotta, America needs to get out of this financial crisis, and yada yada yada, okay, alright, okay, so when are we going to get to the fireworks factory already?

I mean, I'm not doubting that Barack H. Obama is gonna do a good job in office. I mean, he's only been in there for like, what, an hour, and he already changed the law on stem cell research, women paychecks, and shutting down G-ton-a-mo Bay. But I gotta tell ya, I was looking forward to hearing old school Obama talk about change and growth and all that smooth jazz, but what we got instead was new-school Obama, talking about the future. Bah, bring back Sha-na-na!

Obama is smooookin'

I know, I was just messing with the guy. I still like him, and I even thought his speech was pretty okay. I just like to talk, talk, talk. Thanks for the comment

I know his speech was a bit disappointing to some but I'm thankful that for once, a politician put aside the rhetoric and just told it like it is. He basically said, look, we've got issues, I'm here to do things differently, let's get this show started!

Transcript of speech

My fellow citizens:

I stand here today humbled by the task before us, grateful for the trust you have bestowed, mindful of the sacrifices borne by our ancestors. I thank President Bush for his service to our nation, as well as the generosity and cooperation he has shown throughout this transition.

Forty-four Americans have now taken the presidential oath. The words have been spoken during rising tides of prosperity and the still waters of peace. Yet, every so often the oath is taken amidst gathering clouds and raging storms. At these moments, America has carried on not simply because of the skill or vision of those in high office, but because we the people have remained faithful to the ideals of our forebears, and true to our founding documents.

So it has been. So it must be with this generation of Americans.

That we are in the midst of crisis is now well understood. Our nation is at war, against a far-reaching network of violence and hatred. Our economy is badly weakened, a consequence of greed and irresponsibility on the part of some, but also our collective failure to make hard choices and prepare the nation for a ...
