Good, bad, or somewhere in the middle?

Over my years at LMU, I have noticed that people generally have different attitudes toward public safety. These mixed feelings are generally caused by a mix of personal experience, gossip, and even unverified rumor. As far as I know, there have never been any major issues with public safety stepping over there bounds (IE assaulting a student), but yet there seems to be a certain degree of distrust toward the officers regardless. I tend to suspect that most of the hate based on unsubstantiated claims is the result of a certain dislike for authority. Not to say that this is always the case with those who dislike P-Safe, but I have found that the majority of complaints are heard second hand. I'd like to present several instances in which I have had encounters with P-safe, or witnessed events that would lead me to either side with them or against them.

My first year at LMU I had to go to the public safety office to get a parking sticker for on-campus students. After waiting in a fairly long line, I finally got my turn to talk to an officer. The man working the counter was very curt and even bordered upon being out-right rude. He even answered his phone right in the middle of our conversation. Unfortunately my first experience with P-safe was negative, and also not my last.

Ironically, my second year I had a similar negative experience in the P-Safe office picking up my parking sticker. While I was waiting in line a female student came in with a back brace asking for some assistance in helping her move her couch from the back of a moving van into her Hannon apartment. The officer said that because of liability reasons he could not help her move personal property. The women was upset and gave the officer a few choice words and then left the office. I understand the man didn't want to lose his job, but the women had a back brace on. On the point scale I chalk this one up to neutral, but barely.

Finally, a positive experience from P-Safe that I have to share. Every time I enter into the back gates of LMU an older public safety officer stands at the gate with his electric scooter. His duty is to make sure that there are no problems with the gates and that everyone has their ID cards. He always says hello to me every time I pass, and seems genuinely happy with his job and where he is in life. I like and appreciate common courtesy more then most so this little act makes my day. Is P-safe faultless? No. Are they out to get LMU students? Not in my experience.

I sympathize with your review because I am somewhere in the middle. P-Safe has let me go in situations when I was definitely doing something wrong and has been completely short with me in situations in which I was asking for their help.

Perfect example of how confusing it is to park at LMU.

Experience Talk about an office that can't get their facts straight when it comes to parking enforcement. This review isn't a rant as much as it is the truth - and I know that there are more people out there that would be able to take their points further in detail. Parking is terrible at LMU, we all know this by now. But Public Safety just takes a bad situation and makes it worse with the way they handle anything that has to do with citations and tickets.
