A surprisingly affordable and easy way to fly to Australia

When trying to get to Australia, all of my initial flight searches just turned up Quantas. I went directly to their website to book my flight, and was quite happy with the outcome.
They have a great application for planning the flights for a trip, that allows you to graphically chart your travel on a map, picking which cities to fly between. It then prices out the trip for you after you enter the dates for each leg of the trip. This was infinitely less frustrating than the combination of random airport codes you normally see, and gave me much more confidence that I was planning the trip correctly.
For whatever reason, the prices on flights were also very reasonable. Short hops around Australia were significantly cheaper on Virgin Blue, but the long haul flight prices were very competitive.
I haven't actually flown the airline yet, but the reputation is unmatched -- both in terms of safety and comfort. I'm really looking forward to the trip.
