Faster Gratification Than Scrabble

Quiddler is a card game in which the deck is letters. Like Scrabble, letters have varying values. The game is played in multiple hands, with each hand including a few more cards. You get points not just for the words you make, but also for having the longest word of a round. You can also play a solitaire version.
Reasons You Might Like Quiddler Even More Than Scrabble:
-- It's faster
-- You get to play based on what's in your hand, not on where there's space on the board (note; no board)
-- The math and scorekeeping is much simpler
-- It requires less hand-eye coordination since you don't have to line up tiles

Another advantage to Quiddler is that you can play it as solitaire. The game comes with instructions to do this. I'm convinced that it stimulates more of my brain than playing solitaire with a regular deck of cards, and it's more engaging since it requires actual strategy. With regular solitaire, you know the 3 of clubs follows the 2 of clubs, but with Quiddler, do you use the A to spell C-A-K-E or do you look for another word and save that vowel for later?

Mensa honored Quiddler as one of the best games of its year. Having just discovered Quiddler last year, I'd call it one of my best games of 2008.
