While channel surfing the other night I came across a show with a title that any self respecting fisherman or woman would check out "River Monsters". Immediately after pressing the enter button on the menu i was immersed into a high-def adventure in a locale that has been a dream for many to fish, The Amazon River.
The concept of the show is our host Jeremy Wade selects a location that has reports of fresh water attacks on humans where the culprit may be a fish, in most cases a huge man eating fish. After a bit of history and education we are off to the rods & reels to catch a predator(pun intended). These fish range from humongous catfish to vicious piranhas and fish that look like the older brother of something you'd find at a specialty aquarium store.
Folks these fish will put your oscars and arowanas to sleep so dont try to compare, just tune into Animal Planet @ 10pm on sunday. Also there are reruns that air throughout the week.

I guess that this kind of catfish doesn't have the poisonous spines on it. I didn't see any evidence of them at any rate. Its scary enough without them. I've seen the ads for this show and I was wondering about it.
Yea fish can grow to be huge depending on the three things: Gentics, body of water size, & the amount & size of forage available. Another thing that helps a fish grow bigger is the climate. The longer the grow season the more they eat.
