Rurouni Kenshin is a manga series by Nobuhiro Watsuki. Get ready to take a trip back to Tokyo during the Meiji era. You’ll get to see this dramatic samurai tale unfold during actual historic events from Japan’s past. The story focuses around a wandering swordsman who struggles with being a pacifist and violent killer. He is constantly haunted by situations that threaten to break his oath of “not killing.”
He is known widely as a legendary manslayer named “Hitokiri Battousai,” but wishes to keep this fact secret. This sadly is not the case, because his skeletons in his closet are showing up and haunting him constantly. Threatening to destroy the simple lifestyle he’s chosen for himself. As a soft-spoken, kindhearted individual he attempts to keep his identity secret.
The world around him is changing, swordsmanship and honor, is quickly being replaced by gunpowder and foreigners. He has become a ghost of a bloody revolution, the blight of a government’s former regime. Can Kenshin survive in this new world filled with so many differences? Can he make a difference as he is? Or will he be forced to take up his blade once again and become the mighty manslayer to defend his nation? Find out the answer to these questions and more when you take a trip to Tokyo, during the Meiji era with Rurouni Kenshin.
