A teen blogger takes dressing up to a whole new level

Sea of Shoes is a fashion blog run by teen blogger Jane Aldridge, whose age belies her crazy-sophisticated taste. Her fashion eye is so strikingly bold that her blog has won a Web Fashion Award and has been featured in teenVogue. Using herself as a model, Jane creates new sartorial ensembles — and yes, they really are ensembles instead of outfits — that consist of items from her own closet, eBay purchases, her mother's items, designer pieces, and whatever else she can get her hands on.

The result? Her stylings are as exciting, if not more so, as anything you'll find in any fashion magazine. All this from a 16-year-old!

These days, fashion magazines always advise readers to "mix it up." What does "mix it up" mean? It means pairing  designer pieces with cheap mainstream brands or vintage. Since most fashion editorials don't heed their own advice and mainly just show designer pieces with more designer pieces (hello, ad sales!), you have to look elsewhere to be inspired by examples of this.

Sea of Shoes shows, in my opinion, some of the best examples of "mix it up" styling I've seen. Jane's sartorial imagination runs rampant — and she's not afraid to cross over to some bizarre territory. A designer halter jumpsuit with a Mango gold sequin tube top and a vintage ruffle bolero plus some black Givenchy wedges? Sure, why not? Or how about an secondhand emerald glitter jacket with puff sleeves and a plaid skirt? OK!

Sea of Shoes isn't, after all, The Sartorialist, where finely edited clothing and accessories come together in nice, well-mannered looks worn by nice, well-mannered adults. Instead, it's just a teenager having a good time and running carefree. In many ways, that's so much more inspiring to see than well-groomed outfits.

That being said, Jane's wardrobe budget is probably a lot bigger than mine (I feel so sad), but that's also part of the fun. She has access to some truly expensive designer goods, but instead of throwing Chanel on top of Louis Vuitton on top of Marc Jacobs in one sick mess, she's actually finding a whole new way of incorporating these items.

Oh, and I should also mention the best part: This girl rocks some crazy shoes!

I agree with Amy in that the stuff that she has is incredible but not replicable by other girls her age, especially the demographic that is probably reading her site (i.e. young bloggers dabbling in fashion). I do like that she mixes in pieces from Forever21 and H&M making things a little more realistic. All of us on www.collegefashionista.com have enviable closets too!

Jane Aldridge makes most fashion addicts jealous. I think her collection is a bit unrealistic for a person that age but amazing all at once. If you love street style looks and the fashionable young check out www.CollegeFashionista.com!

"And is also really hot?" Haha, I know! It's really unbelievable — and so much fun to read. The new Anna Wintour. Or maybe Grace Coddington.

This young gal is thoroughly adorable. I am extremely jealous of her 79,000 billion million pairs of designer kicks, perfectly angelic face, and top model figure. She is very stylish and sophisticated! But mostly I want to steal all her boots, start running, and never look back.  Also, her Mom has a great blog: Atlantis at Home! (I hope I look as great as she does at her age.)
