For an evening out in the city of Bangkok to discover the traditional culture and songs & dances of Thailand, the performances at the Siam Niramit are worth the price of 1400 baht (around US$50) (including transportation to & from the theater, dinner and show which total some 4 hours, 6-10 pm). Get the tour desk at Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit to book it for you and you ought to be there before 5 pm. We found that the price is dearer if you go to the theater direct for some strange reason.
Show is a little draggy if you don't quite understand the culture and history relating to Thailand. However, it has enough varied performances to keep you entertained in the 80 mins continuous showing. I must admit the stage is definitely worth the price of the ticket. It's as good as most of Vegas shows. If you can spare the time, make sure you go and watch it. You will also be invited to 'experience' some rural lifestyle of the Thais before the show and to try some snacks free of charge!
Here's the bad news: You can't take pictures inside the theater! Now that we got that over with, let's enjoy Siam Niramit to the fullest. It's a show that not only showcased the historical relevance of certain cultures in Thailand but also the imaginary world of hell and heaven. Siam Niramit (สยามนิรมิต) has state-of-the-art cultural performances which have achieved international standards. It uses special techniques integrated with drama to depict the history of each region of Thailand including depictions about hells, the forest of Himmaphan, heavens and lands beyond imagination from Thai literature. There is also a spectacular performance of Thailand’s arts and cultural heritage. The show is staged by more than 150 performers in a luxurious theatre with a capacity of more than 2,000 seats.
