A Refreshing Children's Book

  • Jun 23, 2010
Rating:
+4
Skippyjon Jones by Judy Schachner is a children's book that adults will get a kick out of reading. Skippyjon is a "kitty boy" who thinks he is a chihuahua. He lives with his mother and sisters. Skippyjon is constantly getting into trouble and being sent to his room, where he embarks on imaginary journeys, a hero of the chihuahuas.

One of the most interesting aspects of the Skippyjon series is Schachner's use of Hispanic culture and Spanish language. We also see a lot of rhyming. Adults might stumble over the rhymes, but children will be tickled.

Skippyjon Jones is a fun, fresh children's book. Adults tired of reading the same predictable stories to their children will enjoy this modern, multicultural tale.
