The main premise behind Smarter Than You Think is that some technology is making people smarter. I have a heightened sense of vigilance about technology. This has developed because of this book I have to be more careful of the kind of content I put on Twitter and Facebook. I need to protect my information better. I want to present myself in way that will not incriminate myself in the eyes of other people. The term for the way a person presents oneself online is called ambient awareness. I want to present myself in way that will not incriminate myself in the eyes of other people.

Clive Thompson points out some new web sites and resources that I can use to make me smarter. There is an online web site called The Khan Academy. This web site allows kids to watch math tutorial videos. This gives students the chance to learn math at their own pace. I have never seen ten year old kids with the ability to do trigonometry problems, but it is happening because of Khan Academy. There is a program called logo. This program teaches elementary students geometry. The students move a turtle shaped cursor around different degrees. This helps them to understand geometric shapes and properties. There is another web site called Quora. This web site gives me that ability to ask questions about any subject to the online community. I can also receive information and feedback from the online community. I think I could a lot from using Quora. There is a tool called a wordle that helps improve the writing skills of someone. It analyzes a writing sample by a student and it identifies words that are commonly used in the sample. It also makes suggestions of other words that could be used in the piece. This tool improves the writing skills of a student by expanding their vocabulary. There is a online game called Civilizations 3. This game teaches students the subjects of geography, politics and economics. The object of the game is to build up a country selected from a map, that is strong economically and politically against other countries that could possibly attack. I would love to learn how to play this game of strategy. It sounds challenging and enjoyable. I wish I had these resources growing up. The neat thing is that I can use some of these resources now. I also learned about a new web site called change.org. It will help me to create a petition. I would like to circulate a petition that will help my law makers pass a law that bans smoking at bus stops and beaches. This book is filled with resources that I can use daily. I have been blogging online about books and music for fourteen years now. Blogging has helped me to become a more detailed writer. I am living proof that technology makes people smarter.
