Sobe Bontanicals via Heartsy: a review

Sobe Botanicals has been high on my "to check out" list as it has been repeatedly praised on my favorite beauty blog, Le Gothique. Opportunity to get a bit of bang for my buck arose when Sobe Botanicals was picked to take part in Heartsy - like Groupon, but for independent, online merchants. I purchase a voucher for X amount but receive store credit for XX amount.

In this case, I purchased my voucher for $14.00 but received $28.00 worth of cosmetics.
Using the Heartsy affiliate system, however, I was able to purchase my voucher for $4 since a friend signed up with Heartsy through me and we both received $10 worth of Heartsy credit. Extra bonus!

Sobe currently runs their store through Artfire, which has it's ups and downs. A major bonus to purchasing through Artfire is that I do not need to register and become a member to buy from them; I can just log in as a guest. Awesome, because I immediately went to Sobe Botanical's Etsy store and contacted the owner, Lex, like a total moron. Thankfully, she was kind and guided me towards Artfire. This is what happens when we don't read the fine print.

I had a very difficult time choosing which items to give a go from Sobe - I consulted Le Gothique constantly, going from all of her notable mentions of Sobe Botanical products, back to the Artfire store (which was rapidly becoming picked clean from other Heartsy customers). Finally, I decided on three items:

- Glow Veil finishing/setting powder - "Veils are the perfect solution to disguise skin blemishes, marks, scars & other skin problems. Ingeniously uses light to detract what you don't want people to see. Used as Setting/Perfecting powders to camouflage imperfections, seal in foundation to make it last longer & gives a perfect finish! Bring on the confidence!!" - Sobe Botanicals
Glow Veil is described as: "tinted pink & the most shimmery without being too much" ($14.99)

Blush in Charming, a medium apricot pink w/ gold & bronze shimmer ($7.99)

- Lipstick in Harlequin - Rich red with red shimmer ($7.99)

My order came to: $30.97 + 3.50 for S&H = $6.47

All in all, including what I paid for the Heartsy voucher: $10.47

Not too shabby indeed. Now, onto the products themselves!

As you can see from the image at the top, my items arrived in a very fun, tidy packaging. Included with my order was a thank you note and three free samples.

Glow Veil: Using the mineral foundation that I am currently using (Bare minerals), the glow veil does not seem to do much of what it claims to do. I am, however, in the process of changing up my foundation back to liquid and feel that the glow veil might fare better then. It does have that subtle shimmer, which is lovely.I am not giving up on this product, I think I just need to work with it more.

Charming (blush): Beautiful. Absolutely amazing color; a pinky apricot that I use to either highlight my cheeks or give a healthy, fun tint all over my face. I take this with me whenever I leave town.

Harlequin (lipstick): While the color is a stunningly striking deep red, the formula is so thick and creamy and shaped like flat chapstick, so it's a bit of a job for a makeup newb like myself to put it on without the assistance of a lip brush. Regardless, I'd still recommend Sobe Botanicals lipsticks for their creative, long-lasting colors and creamy, pigmented formula.

As I mentioned earlier, I was given three bonuses with my order:

left to right: Eyeshadow in Parlez Vous, eyeshadow in Ooak, Illusionist perfecting powder (which I was debating purchasing before I went with Glow Veil) I've only used Parlez Vous so far, an intensely shimmery coppery brown that I was given a full 2g jar of. Nice! It's a rich color for both neutral day time looks and glammed up evening looks.

Would I purchase from Sobe Bontanicals again? Yes! I feel that owner Lex knows what she is doing and sets a high standard for quality products along with stellar customer service. I'd probably stick with Etsy for future purchases, however, just because I am a regularly active member there and it's a more familiar setting.

Great review, and what a deal! I'll have to take a look at their site when I get a chance as I've been in the market for a new blush!

I know! You had me 99.9% there... I was TOTALLY going to go for it, too when I was like "Oh, shimmer!" and decided to go for glow instead. I'm sure I'm going to go for Illusionist next round ;D

I honestly use something from SoBe everyday. A powder, a blush, a lipstick. Something. right now it's their blond brow powder and Sweet and Sour eyeshadow. OH, and the Oil Control Powder. I go back and forth between that and the Evil Shades one.
