She's been the queen of wrestling since she joined the WWE in 2003 and later TNA, but Mickie James got help from a couple friends to release her sophomore album "Somebody's Gonna Pay." In 2011, Mickie started a kickstarter campaign with the goal of raising $5000 for her project that will be released early next month. Instead, what she got was over 200 supporters with pledges totaling $16,000. The resulting release is eclectic with songs for every kind of country listener. There is definitely something for everybody on the disc. Some songs you may not like, but others you will love.
The disc kicks off with the first single which also leant it's name to the album title, "Somebody's Gonna Pay." The song is a kick ass and take names song about a breakup. The song could lend way to an anthem for women around the country and actually acts as my favorite track on the release. Another standout was "Long Way Down," a more laid-back track about how once you get up, it can be dangerous heading back down. "If I Can't Be Me" is a great ballad for all the traditionalists out there. It tells a tale of how a relationship isn't worth it if you can't be yourself.
With 12 songs on the disc, I'm sure you could find something that fits your taste. Unfortunately in the midst of the caliber of artists entering the business, I'm not sure if this release will bring Mickie to the level she wants to be. It is evident that she has her die hard fans, but this release might just get lost in the mix.
Feel free to get your copy of "Somebody's Gonna Pay" on May 7th. For an early listen, head over to iTunes to preview the tracks or head over to MickieJames.com to listen to a few tracks.
