Spawn Godslayer Volume 1

SPAWN
GODSLAYER

If you are a Spawn fan I am sure you remember this special here that would lead to a short lived series. Here Spawn is set in a medieval world where dragons and gods roam alongside man. I remember when this was first released I was actually kinda into it. I have always loved the world Spawn lived in and who does not like medieval stories. So I was looking forward to this and I liked it, now after going back and reading it again how did it fair.

Endra-La is a beautiful place where all who live there live in the comfort of the goddess Llyra and her protection. That is of course until a legendary figure appears on the horizon, until now he was just a myth. Who is he and what is he bringing to this land, simply, death. He is the Godslayer and he wants Llyra and all under her protection. But there is one there that may be the key to it all, not only for the people but for the Hell Spawn himself.

When I first read this I liked it but it was far from great in my opinion. I liked the story and everything but something seemed off and it felt like something was missing. Even still I felt the need to go through some Spawn lately and I came across this one. After going back and rereading this it seems I enjoyed more than I remembered. The setting is excellent and the artwork matches that easily. The style of the story is fun and I liked the way it was told this time.

This seemed more like an actual story then just a comic if you get what I am saying. It had that fairy tale feel to it and helped make it seem more majestic. That really fits with the medieval theme that the book has. Written by Brian Holguin I have to say that this has a nice feel to it, easy to read but doesn't tell you everything you would need to know. Of course this would be turned into a series and that would later add to it. The style and images here were given to us by Jay Anacleto, Lan Medina, and Brian Haberlin and over all they did a really good job. This was an interesting take on this character so while it is short everything works out well.

Now this is not a perfect comic and I can see where some people would not be into very much. Still there is an audience out there for this kind of story and comic. If you are a Spawn fan I would say check it out. It was a fresh take on the character that grew on me over time. Any comic fan out there may have a good time with this as well so if you come across it for a low price pick it up.
