You Can't Keep A Good Fett Down In BOBA FETT IS DEAD #2
May 21, 2012
Connor Freeman is a distant relative of Boba Fett, and it goes without saying that being any relation – however distant – to the galaxy’s most feared bounty hunter – comes at great risk. The conclusion of the first installment of BLOOD TIES: BOBA FETT IS DEAD showed Freeman’s life in great jeopardy, as it appeared as if those who had silenced the fated mercenary had now come to do the same to him. It shouldn’t come as any surprise that those as elusive as Fett might share in the same skills. For now, Conner’s alive … but for how long? What really went down on the planet Sathiemon finally emerges, and an unlikely alliance between distant relations becomes the only rationale course of action to save both fugitives. However, Fett’s on a mission – this one vastly more personal than any before – to uncover the identity of who put out a contract for his head, and he won’t be stopped by so much as the forces of the Galactic Empire!
Dark Horse launches its next installment of the 4-issue miniseries on May 30th, and it looks even more spectacular than the first. Again, script duties are performed winningly by Tom Taylor – moving the narrative along at a pitch perfect pace – and the art comes from Chris Scalf … the worlds have never been lovelier! It all looks just like a part of the movies seen up on the silver screen or on television in STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS … from the blaster bolts to the uniforms as well as a secret visit to the world Blackfel, the training grounds of the Empire, it all looks and sounds exactly the way George Lucas’s inspiration should.
So far, this one still garners my HIGHEST POSSIBLE RECOMMENDATION. It’s a superb tale – a welcome addition to the BLOOD LINES family of stories – and I suspect it’s only going to get better as it builds toward whatever explosive climax the artists have in store. Taylor’s no stranger to the STAR WARS universe; he’s penned installments from STAR WARS: INVASION as well as LUKE SKYWALKER AND THE TREASURE OF THE DRAGONSNAKES. His voice is a welcome addition to a time long ago in a galaxy far, far away.
In the interests of fairness, I’m pleased to disclose that the fine folks at Dark Horse Comics provided me with an advance electronic copy of STAR WARS: BLOOD TIES: BOBA FETT IS DEAD #2 by request for the expressed purposes of completing this review.
