Recently I was given an entire weekend to my son while my wife and daughter went away for a dance competition. We started our bachelor's weekend by eating flounder and redfish on Friday night and staying up late just for the heck of it. On Saturday morning, we went to the local bakery and had doughnut holes and chocolate milk for breakfast before heading to a nearby department store to pick up a birthday present for an acquaintance of ours.
While scanning the toy aisles for a present proper for a one year old child, my son, who's almost four, found two blasters featuring one of his favorite shows, Star Wars: The Clone Wars. One blaster featured the Clone Captain Rex (my favorite from the series) and the other was the bounty hunter Cad Bane's blaster. My son asked me if he could have one and, being the sucker that I am, agreed to let him pick one to have. I tried to convince him that Rex' blaster was the cooler of the two, but he insisted on getting Cad Bane.
When we got home, we had a couple of hours to kill before the birthday party so we tested out the blaster. Initially, I thought that I got robbed because the blaster barely worked. No instructions were included, so I started experimenting a bit. Finally, I figured out that the Nerf-like soft dart had to be inserted entirely into the gun before cocking and firing it.
The blaster shoots the darts a good ten to fifteen feet, and at close range can actually tingle a bit. My son had a blast with the blaster as he chased his old man around the house with it.
We spent the afternoon at the aforementioned birthday party and then had grilled hamburgers, hot dogs, and boudin with friends that night before going to bed entirely too late.
On Sunday morning, we woke up and promptly headed back to the store so that I could pick up the Rex blaster for myself. We shot each other to smithereens for most of the day until my wife and daughter returned home.
Not only was it a great weekend, the Cad Bane and Rex blasters more than made up for their costs. Highly recommended to any fan (young or old) of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

Despite looking extremely cool, I have to admit that I'm a dork. I grew up on the outskirts of the small town of Oberlin, LA. I have since relocated to the Lake Charles, LA area.I love my home state … more
