I am a Starbucks junkie. I am. I can not deny it. Coffee is my weakness. My grandmother (who I comfortable call Mamatey) used to serve my brother and I coffee with our breakfast. Now you must think this is so bad, caffeine for a child, blah blah...Mind you I am 33 and a normal height with a great brain and in perfect health. I used looked forward to this coffee because it came with a piece of bread (depending on her mood toast with a little sugar and cinnamon, Mexican sweet bread, regualr toast...etc) an of course all of mamatey's love!
My brother and I would sit at her table, watch our Saturday morning cartoons that consisted of either He-Ma, Go-Bots or Rainbow Brite and just wait. I could see her making our coffee treat. She would brew the coffee, then on the stove, she would pour half n'half or whole milk into a small pot, as it heated she would stir and stir and stir the milk until it became thick and hot!! Then she would pull our our special mugs...i had one with tweedle dee and tweedle dumba dn mybrother had a GI Joe one. Mamatey would pour, maybe 1/4 - 1/2 cup of coffee, about 4-5 lumps of sugar and then fill the mug up with the heated milk. OOOOOOOHHH LAAALAAA!!!!
This was breakfast heaven. So I was so happy when I actually went to work for Starbucks in my last year of college to find out they actually do make this drink. No, it is not a latte, that is with espresso. A half coffee, half steamed milk drink with a bread slice ready to be dipped into it. Yum.
Now you may not find this on the menu, ut it is there. A misto, like I said earlier, is just half coffee and half steamed milk (your preferance of course). Now the Breve is steamed half n'half. That is a beautiful way of saying it. Everything else is just regular, nonfat misto, 2% misto, soy misto... These milks do not have the same effect when you order, also, not the same smothness or love when you take that first sip of coffee.
I love having the Breve Misto with Verona. The perfect coffee! Smooth and filling. yum!! And even though I am lactose intolerant, i will suffer a bit for this drink. It makes me happy, wakes me up, just a perfect cup of happiness on any Monday morning. Verona, Pikes Place, Columian, Brazil Impanema, French Roast (for the hard days)...
Of course now that I have gotten older, 5 lumps of sugar is definitely not on the menu. I take it with 1 splenda, but usually go without any added sweetner ( i like to taste my coffee). A grande for the hard mornings/afternoons, but usually a tall will do. Anytime I see verona as coffee of the day, I am all over it. "Can I please have a grande, breve Misto?" i sound like such a Barista (and i am not one anymore). My brother loves it too, but he puts in sugar, lots and lots of sugar, I can do a sip of it, but whoa!!! sweet coffee.
I love this drink and I hope you do too. Let me know! I could be in this Breve Misto world all by my lonesome, but I doubt it. You can order it at ANY Starbucks, even though you may not see it on the menu. If the coffee they are not serving that day isn't the one you want, guess what, ask them to French Press it for you. Oh, they will!!! I think it would be a top seller if they did post it, but who am i to tell them about their menu, i'm just a very happy, i know my coffee, coffee drinker! Seems like every Monday I am taking myself back to 1983. Hapyy coffee drinking!!!!
