A Swiss Army knife is a pocket-sized knife or tool set used by the Army of Switzerland. The term "Swiss Army" is currently registered by the Wenger company, which was acquired by Victorinox, its Swiss Army knife manufacturing competitor.
The design and model for the knife originated in the city of Ibach, Schwyz in Switzerland in 1897. Since then, models have grown to include one or several blades, screwdrivers, blades, can and bottle openers, and other tools. Until 2005, two companies, Wenger and Victorinox, manufactured the knives. Today, the knives are popular among those who enjoy the outdoors and those who work at home.
