Fast forward a year, and it's hard to believe that the model-pretty girl on the cover of this CD is the same un-polished girl from that audition.
Her voice is just amazing - it has the range and power of Christina Aguilera/Mariah Carey, but the playfullness and approachability of Faith Hill or Shania Twain. Either way, the voice is what it's all about.. and she's got it here.
I would have given the album 5 stars, but I think there's a bit of mass-production going on in here. While I love the first single ("Miss Independent"), the reviewers have made no secret that it was a hand-me-down from Christina Aguilera. I wish the many people involved in producing this project would have given her a little more credit and not given her quite so many "filler" songs and really had people write for her voice and her style.
So while I'm only giving it four stars, it's not a statement about Kelly Clarkson's talent - she's got that and then some. Let's just hope that her next album really allows her to explore her own style and sound (as Christina Aguilera did with "Stripped"). Way to go Kelly!
