How many of you have gone to the fridge to make dinner or prepare a healthy snack only to find that your Produce has gone bad?  This happens to us Frequently! I don't know if it's because we have an old fridge or if we are just horrible at eating produce fast enough, but EVERY week, we have to throw out produce that has gone bad within 3 days of purchasing it. We were TIRED of throwing our money out with the food.
Did you know--American households throw out  25%  of produce purchased  - because it has  gone bad, tossing out  an average of $600 of food per year per family, according an eight year USDA funded study?

Because of this, I was THRILLED to be able to product test the Bluapple (as seen on "The Dr's" Tv show)!

About BlueApple, What is it and How it works!

The Bluapple is this cute little plastic blue apple, with little holes in the top. But that's not what is impressive, it is the little packet inside the bluapple that works the wonders! This little packet is what absorbs the Ethylene Gas; which causes the produce to spoil. Once you purchase the bluapple 2pack, all you need to do after that is purchase the 12 month refill kits. After 3 months, simply change out the little packets inside the blueapple and you are good for another 3 months! How does it work you ask?

Ethylene gas is given off naturally by fruits and vegetables as a signaling mechanism in order to coordinate uniform ripening. However, once concentrated in your refrigerator or other storage areas, the presence of ethylene gas continues to speed up ripening and hasten spoilage.
The BluApple is designed to provide effective ethylene gas absorption for three months in a typical home refrigerator produce bin or storage container. The active ingredient does not "wear out", but continues to absorb ethylene until it has reached its capacity. A One Year Refill Kit rounds out the BluApple ethylene gas management product line, allowing consumers to reuse BluApples and not add them to landfills. The Bluapple is based on Technology that is used in ships, warehouses and trucks that keep our produce fresh as it is transported across the country. The Bluapple does not release any gas or chemical, but only absorbs, constantly removing this harmful gas from your produce storage area.

The Result is Fresher produce LONGER! It was just like Christmas when my package arrived in the mail, and I immediately put it to work, as we had just purchased Groceries that day. I placed one bluapple in each storage drawer in our fridge--one for Fruits and one for Vegetables, and then I forgot about them.

More than 1 week later: I'm ecstatic to report that we have not had to throw out food this week! And in fact I saw a dramatic difference in our produce! Especially the strawberries! Normally after 2 days in the fridge they start to shrivel slightly, discolor and by 3 days they start to grow mold on all of the berries and the entire pack has to be thrown out. ON PURPOSE, I left a package of strawberries in the fridge for 6 days. None of the strawberries had shriveled, or discolored, and only ONE strawberry out of the entire pack had just began to grow a small section of fuzz. (and it happened to be the one which was crushed at the bottom.). Our lettuce is still fresh, crisp and NOT brown. Grapes, are fresh and crisp. Carrots are brilliantly colored and moist. Our tomatoes are still just as good as the day we put them in the storage bin...1 week ago! I'm just so amazed that NONE of our produce is shriveled or needs to be thrown out!

Little features that I just LOVE about the Bluapple that aren't highly publicized:

--On the website there is a handy little feature where you can type in your email address and enter the date that you opened your packet and started using your blueapple. After 3 months, they will email you and inform you that it is time to refill the bluapple.

--I love the GREEN aspect of the bluapple! After reading the packaging, I discovered that even after you refill the bluapple, the little packet still has a function! Don't throw it away! You can open it and use the contents as plant fertilizer in your household plants!

I've used those other "brands" of items like bags and the like that claim they do the same as the bluapple, but from personal experience, those other products don't work nearly as well as the bluapple works! So I would have to say I'm convinced in how effective the bluapple works and I HIGHLY recommend you each get one!

BUY IT:
You can find Bluapple at natural food stores, fine retail grocers, and co-ops around the country or online.

I'm really good about not letting my produce spoil, but I still think that this sounds great! And I love that they'll email you when it's time to replace it! So much for having to write the date with a Sharpie on things anymore :P Thanks so much for sharing this!

I don't know about you, but I throw out a substantial amount of spoiled produce. We are very careful about how much we buy and try to have minimal waste, but sometimes it just happens and I forget about that onion or the head of salad. Finally there is something to minimize that waste naturally! I had the opportunity to review BluApple, which keeps fruits and veggies fresh longer by absorbing the ethylene gas they produce in the zeolite packet within the apple.   I have …
