The Color Purple is an old favorite of mine. I've read it so many times, I've lost count. Walker's book just pulls at the heartstrings and makes you want to laugh and rage and cry and cheer all at the same time. It's a must-read for everyone!

I actually saw the movie first, but this book made the conditions of the story even worse, and forces you to take pity on the characters
Definitely a winner. Epistolary novels are often difficult beats, but this one is structurally sound. It tackles incredibly sensitive subjects (i.e. racism and sexism) in a brutally honest way.
Tried to like it, and I couldn't.
I really wanted to enjoy this when it was assigned to be read in one of my high school English classes. I hated this novel.
