A classic everyone must read

  • Jun 18, 2010

Who doesn't just love Winnie the Pooh and all the other delightful characters who live in the hundred acre wood?  Even if you have already seen the Walt Disney Winnie the Pooh movies you really must make time to read the books. Written of course, with primarily children in mind, these books also make for a delightful read for teenagers and adults. If you could only read a few children's books then Winnie the Pooh would still be at the top of your list. While the Winnie the Pooh movies are quite well done and do include many of the same scenes and stories as the book, there are still quite a few scenes which you would miss out on by not reading the books. Furthermore, there are as with all books and movies some changes in the movies from the books. The movies bring to live these beloved characters in a way not possible in a book but the book gives you a unique perspective you cannot get by watching a movie. In addition to the delightful stories of Winnie the Pooh, Eyore, Rabbit, Kanga, Little Roo, Owl and Piglet, the illustrations in these books are really tops. In fact after reading and looking at the illustrations I'm willing to bet that you will want to have a bear, a rabbit, a pig and an owl as pets. Even though of course the real animals do not talk or behave like those in the book. Winnie the Pooh's simple lack of understanding of how the world works as well as his funny innocence will strike a cord of sympathy and humor with children but perhaps even more so with adults.

What is also unique about this book is that the author also did the illustrations in addition to the text. This is quite unusual and tells you that the author must not only be a great artist but he must also have wanted to make sure that his beloved animal characters were portrayed in the way he wanted them to be.

So sit back, relax with your favorite beverage and enjoy Winnie the Pooh.

This book was an absolute delight to read. Every Winne-the-Pooh story was there and every one I enjoyed. The stories feature all the well-loved characters: Winnie-the-Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore, Owl, Rabbit, Kanga and Roo, Tigger and Christopher Robin. Milne is a fabulous writer and there is plenty of wit and intelligence in these books. If you think they are just for children you are wrong. There are several comments that children would not understand but would make an adult laugh. There were plenty …

my favorite childrens cartoon and book to this day. winnie the pooh gave kids something to do. taught them about having friends and the importance of them. and for me, taught me moral, like to never betray friends, and always help them, things like that i think people need and dont get from the wiggles and zack and cody.

Winnie the Pooh was what I grew up on. We listened to it on tapes when we went to bed. I loved the voices especially. Such sweet characters.
