The Conjuring is a film that makes me believe that evil spirits can haunt a house and possess the body of an individual.  This film is based on true events of the Perron family. They lived in a house inhabited by evil spirits in Rhode Island in 1971.   The spirit of a woman who killed her child a century earlier still lives in this house.

This film uses sound effects to create a feeling of danger and dread. One scene really stands out to me.  It involves an evil spirit pulling the legs of a young girl to the edge of her bed.  This spirit is invisible, but the  presence of this spirit is felt throughout this scene with a relentless pounding  sound.  Ordinary objects add to the feeling of dread too.  There is a bird that gets slammed against a window.  This is a very intense scene. A tee shirt blowing in the wind also creates a looming sense of danger in the film.  The acting performances are strong by every one in the cast.  Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga play a husband and wife team of demonologists.  The mission of these demonologists  is to cleanse the house of  evil spirits.  I don't know any thing about demonology, but Wilson and Farmiga make me believe that demonology is a subject worth knowing about  I learned that an evil spirit goes through three phases in haunting a house.  The first stage is infestation.  Spirits initially attach themselves to a house in this stage of demonology.  The second stage of demonology is oppression.  In this stage, a spirit makes their presence felt through unusual sounds and events.  The third stage of demonology is possession.   A spirit enters the body of a person and takes over the person.  Lilli Taylor gives an excellent performance as the matriarch of the Perron family.  Her body becomes possessed by an evil spirit..    The Conjuring is a scary and suspenseful film. The director, James Wan, uses sound effects and ordinary objects to create tension that the audience feels.

A Masterful Hand in Weaving a Story to Generate The Proper Atmosphere and Terror
Ed and Lorraine Warren are husband and wife. They are also two of the most renowned paranormal-occult investigators. During their prime, Ed was the only non-ordained demonologist recognized by the Vatican. Lorraine is a professed clairvoyant and a light trance medium. Together, they have investigated some of the most renowned hauntings in America. The story of their most malevolent supernatural encounter has never been revealed…until now.      20 years ago, the development …

'The Conjuring' extremely scary and extremely good (video)
By Joan Alperin Schwartz 'The Conjuring' is one of the most terrifying films I've seen in a very long time and I loved every second of it.  Of course I love being scared, but only when I'm seating in a movie theatre.                                                                       Based …
