Eleanor R. is a recovering alcoholic and food addict. Addiction is a disease that affects every area of a person's life. Eleanor is proof that addictions can be beat.  She has devoted her life helping other people conquer their addictions. The story of her recovery offers hope to anyone who is battling any kind of addiction. The foundation of her recovery are the twelve steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. I don't have a drinking problem, but I could easily become addicted to food and the Internet if I am not careful. Eleanor shares a piece of Buddhist wisdom that resonated with me. The advice is to be open to everything and be attached to nothing. I will strive to remember this as I try to eat and use the Internet more modestly in my life.

One of the twelve steps emphasizes daily prayer. The aim of another step to recovery is to make amends to people that I have offended. These are simple principles to follow. I will become a happier person if I can practice these two things. This is the kind of book that will hopefully make me connect with a higher power, and that is a good thing. It is filled with positive quotes about blocking out all negative thoughts. There is another quote by the founder of AA that states the foundation of a happy life are meditation and self examination. This quote reinforces the Eleanor's message about the value of prayer.

Eleanor finds the value in the simple song "Row Row Row Your Boat". The words in the rhyme can make me a happier person. She gets the pearls of wisdom in every line of this simple rhyme. This is a sign of a good writer. I will share The Disease Of More with anyone who is struggling with addiction.
