scene queens and wanna bes

I always dread going to shows because to me it almost feels like high school. It doesn't help that all of the bands and the atendees are in their teens! The second you walk in you start noticing the different groups of people.  You've got your geeks, losers, wanna bes, and of course mean girls. Now, where do you fit in in this equation? It seems as though people hardly ever go to shows for the music.  I highly praise all of the real and devoted fans out there, but what about everyone else?

geeks - this would be... your "super fan".  They are the die hard fans that would fight for a vile of the lead singer's sweat.

losers - these are the kids who go to the show because it's cool this week to like this band. They know none of the lyrics except maybe the songs posted on the band's myspace.

wanna bes - this would have to be the slutty girl looking for attention from any band dude that will give it to her, but she still had to PAY for a ticket. simply, pathetic.

mean girls - this subject doesn't nessasarily pertain to  JUST girls. It also includes trannys because let's face it trannys are trendy. These girls tend to be over glamed, and attention starved. It looks like they came from a photoshoot with the heavy amounts of make up on their face, and typically they are "really close friends" with one or more of the bands. Sorry to break it to you, but you are just an over glorified groupie, who seeks fame in the pants of those who are more famous.

I spoke to a friend of mine from an up and coming pop punk band, and he said "aren't groupies one of the perks? I mean, that's part of the reason why most guys get into bands. Most of the groupies I know, know what's up. They know they are there to serve a purpose." As sickening as that sounds is it true?  I suppose on some level it's true. Most guys get into music for fame, money, power, glory, and of course the chicks, even though only a very small percentage make it to the top of the pack.  Let's face it music isn't making very much money these days. It seems as though the mean girls might be making more money then some of the bands they are "friends" with. No one said these girls weren't thinkers. The groupies of today are high tech with myspace, facebook, and twitter pages who add all of their "friend's" fans, and create merchandise, and almost market themselves as a product.  I'm all for girl power and what not, but it seems as though the root of all of this and the overly glamed, diamond encrusted, hot pink elephant in the room is, sex.  I'm not prudish by any means, but is this what you want influencing your 14 year old shopper at hot topic?  I know that if I had a child who looked up to such creatures I would quickly throw my computer out the window.

what rocker is next? typical wanna be i typed

Well said. I love the quote from the emo band and also when you called the scene queens 'creatures'. I've seen everything you are saying at local shows in LA ... very sad! I hope I have a son!
