The Night Horses by Anaka Jones is an action picture rendition of
horses busy attending to the daily process of life. Each page
has a moving scene showing a horse engaged in a life-like
activity.

Jones begins by depicting a young horse eating a morning
meal with a scared mouse busily looking on. The next scene
shows the horses around the hay feeder engaging in
conversation. Another early picture shows May racing a younger
horse named Cloud to the top of the hill.

The action quickly moves to Flower and Lola discussing that they
each will have a baby in the Spring season. Jones shows the
horses showering after a long day and filing in for dinner at their
respective stalls each night. Suddenly, the horses are seen
playing with their disco ball and gathering around the table
to play evening cards. At times, the horses play a make believe
spa where they do each others' manes and hooves.

The author depicts Cloud telling funny jokes which make the
assembly of other horses laugh uncontrollably. Each horse has
a midnight snack followed by a lively party. Soon enough, the party
ends and the horses retire to sleep for the night.

The Night Horses by Anaka Jones is a wonderful book for
children and young adults. The stories are interesting and the
action pictures engage the audience significantly in the story
at every step of the way from early morning to retiring early
to bed.

The artist rendition of the horses is drawn with great attention to musculature
and other defining details. Each picture is absolutely clear
against a backdrop of black and white, as well as color renditions.

The Night Horses by Anaka Jones is a wonderful acquisition for
students, animal lovers, artists and anyone interesting in capturing
the anatomy and daily activities of horses.
