I believe in the power of negative thinking.

  • Feb 5, 2013

I never thought that negative thinking could lead to postitve results. Bob Knight is a famous college basketball coach.  I have never played basketball, but I love to watch the sport. Bob Knight makes references to some of my favorite basketball players like Isaiah Thomas and Michael Jordan. These players made adjustments to their game that lead to success on the court.  The stories of these famous athletes remind me that I should be open to making adjustments in my life if I want to succeed in anything.

The central theme of this book is the power of negative thinking. Negative thinking will help me avoid all of the pit falls that I can happen when I try something new. I am thinking about going back to school again to pursue a masters degree for a while now.I can use the information in this book to choose a program that is suited to my abilities.  I studied the social sciences in graduate school before.  I failed to look at all of the problems that I could encounter.  I did not pass my class, and I dropped out as a result. Saying that I can't do something is not a bad thing.  This is another piece of advice that I will remember. I should be more aware of my limitations now that I am in my forties. Bob Knight reminds me that having the will to prepare to do something is the key to success.

Bob Knight makes some interesting historical and literary references to emphasize his points. I did not know that Napoleon failed to prepare when attacking Russia.  He lost thousands of soldiers because of his lack of foresight. "The Charge of Light Brigade" is a poem that reminds me that failure can happen to anyone. The wisdom that Knight gains from history and literature impresses me.  I really enjoyed everything about this book.
