A Story for any Season

I started reading this book in December as it had a holiday theme of reindeers and thought it would be fitting for the season. Then I got sidetracked with other things and didn’t finish reading until recently. The delay wasn’t because it wasn’t interesting, it was more my timing. However, I’m glad I read it past the holiday time because it isn’t really a seasonal book.

The female protagonist of this book is a 2nd generation funeral director who inherits a house and land from someone who her father was kind to when it was needed.  This place has a bit of a magical aspect to it as it does house reindeer which is a requirement to keep the estate.  But the story is more about the family relationships, past hurts and sorrows as well as having a belief system to carry you through.

It is not a Hallmark Movie moment where everything is wrapped up neatly at the end and all live happily ever after. Rather it is a thoughtful look at life and what it takes to live on despite setbacks.
