Caveat:  Before you start this novel, clear some time on your calendar.  It's not a long novel at 260 pages, and I don't think the author intended it as a page-turner, necessarily.  But this prose is so fluid (albeit dark and gritty) you will find yourself lost in it for hours.      The opening scene of the novel depicts army vet Bandy Dorner awakening in his wrecked car from a drunken stupor to find that the cabin he shared with his girlfriend is on fire.  …
