Everybody Loves Tiger Woods

I'm not ashamed to admit that I have a man-crush on Tiger Woods.  The guy is such an amazining competitor that I find myself watching televised golf only to see what kind of unbelievable shots he'll make this time out.  To put Tiger's dominance into perspective, he currently has 90 professional wins with 14 in Major tournaments -- the current #2 player, Phil Mickelson (who turned pro 4 years before Tiger) has 43 wins with 3 in the majors.  Tiger wins a lot in general, but he really manages to raise his level of play for the big tournaments.  Even when he doesn't win, he's almost always near the top of the leaderboard showing unmatched consistency through the years.

There are several examples of Tiger's competitiveness throughout his years as a professional.  Even while dominating the sport throughout his career, he has undergone two major "swing adjustments" in  order to improve his game and ultimately lengthen his career.  Rather than becoming complacent at the top and bask in his millions and millions of dollars in earnings and endorsements, Tiger risked "breaking what works" in order become even better.  The most dramatic example of Tiger's persistence was in June 2008 during the US Open.  Two months after knee surgery, Tiger was back in the final group on Sunday poised to win another US Open.  However, after falling behind early, Tiger began to favor his leg and limp his way through round prompting questions if he had returned too early after surgery.  On the 18th hole, Tiger made a birdie to force a sudden death playoff with Rocco Mediate, which Tiger then won on the first hole.  Two days later it was discovered that Tiger had been playing on a broken leg!  If you tried to pitch that story to a movie studio, they would laugh you out of the building saying that even Hollywood needs to maintain some level of believability.

Despite Tiger's dominance, everyone still roots for him.  At some point, you'd think the underdogs would start to get some support, but there's isn't much not to like about Tiger.  Even his competition can't help but thank Tiger for bringing so much attention to the sport, which has increased the tournament prize money significantly.  Tiger's American Express commercial made everyone laugh, and the whole world was touched by his close relationship with his father.

When I'm an old man, I'll be telling kids stories about Tiger Woods as if he was Paul Bunyon himself -- only Tiger won't need any embellishment for his legacy.  It will be able to stand up to time by itself.

LOL! nice entertaining write up. So did his recent actions affect your man crush? Nice one, man, all I care about Tiger is his golfing abilities and nothing else when in regards to his personal life.

Great golfer, shitty man! I agree he is a great competitor and has awesome skills on the golf course it is just too bad he let it go to his head. And too bad that when he was discussing his horrible marriage with his 'bitches' he forgot to loop his wife in on the discussion. His legacy will live on past his self-destrucitve behavior and bad choices. Look at Ray Charles, Lance Armstrong, Michael Jordan, Ray Lewis, etc who remembers their bad choices?
