After one year of waiting for the second season it was obviously than ASCII MediaWorks would make a video game....and here we have it. Touma and friends are ready to fight in this new PSP game,, giving us a "Masterpiece" of game. (if you see the anime you will understand the joke)
Here some info about the anime from wiki (if you know the anime, skip this): Toaru Majutsu no Index is set in Academy City, a technologically advanced Academic city located at western Tokyo which studies scientifically advanced superhuman students with powers, but is also set in a world where magic is real. Tōma Kamijō is a student in Academy City whose right hand, the Imagine Breaker, has the ability to negate any supernatural powers, but also his own luck. One day he finds a young girl hanging on his balcony railing named Index. She is a nun from Necessarius, a secret magic branch of the Church of England, and her mind has been implanted with the Index Librorum Prohibitorum—103,000 forbidden magical books the Church has removed from circulation. His encounter with her leads him to meet others from the secret world of science and magic and an adventure with his friends where science and magic collide. Tōma's unusual power places him at the center of conflicts relating magicians and science-based espers in Academy City. As Tōma tries to help and protect his friends, he learns the people he knows are not as they appear and begins to attract the attention of magicians and espers alike as they try to unravel the secrets of Academy City and Index. The side-story, A Certain Scientific Railgun, focuses on Mikoto Misaka, an electromaster who is the third most powerful of the seven Level 5 espers in Academy City. Set before and during the events of the novels, the manga tells the adventures of Mikoto and her friends during that time period from their point of view, eventually coinciding with the events of the third novel.
This game features 5 modes: Story, VS CPU, Training, Challenge and Gallery. Even with few modes, you will be entertained for some hours. You will see some familiar faces in the game as: Touma, Accelerator, Misaka, Tsuchimikado; and other ones than you will not recognize: Mugino and Acqua of the Back
The animation of the Overdrives, are just well-made, something than fans will really enjoy.
The Story Mode give us 5 different stories by some characters of the anime: Touma, Accelerator, Kanzaki, Mugino and Sasha. After you beat all of them you will unlock the last story mode featuring some of the enemies of the anime. This mode will take you at least 2 or 3 hours.
VS CPU mode.....As every fighting game it will be boring after some matches. The only good things about the fights are the support character, something than its awesome :D
Challenge mode have 3 options: Survival, Time and Ranking.... Survival only have 30 matches, becoming more hard the next match; Time have only 10 fights...wow....hard; and Ranking mode where you can see your own rank and your friends ranks :D
Training mode....its training mode, nothing special :/
The controls in this game are just too easy: Square for Weak Attack, Triangle for Strong Attack, Circle for Overdrive (hyper) and X for defense. Hard, isnt it?
Something what you would like about the game is the soundtrack. Its just amazing and it fits very well with the game and the anime. Something than you would like to enjoy in every fight.
The visual about the game its well-made. The only thing than it wasnt good made was the move of the mouth.....they dont move. :/
Most of the characters were balanced...but as every fighting games there are some characters than are overpowered....just like the anime...even most of the people can consider them "God Tiers" just like Accelerator, Mugino, Acqua and Fuze=Kazakiri (curse them xD)
In my opinion, punching and kicking most of the characters with Touma, electrifying Touma with Misaka, using Accelerator to beat Misaka Imouto, its just too awesome just like the anime. If you are a fan of the anime, you MUST get this game.
Good things: -The Soundtrack its just amazing -Most of the characters are balanced -The controls are easy
Bad things: -Easy to beat -Few characters in comparision of the anime -Difficult to see a North America release
