I've listened to a ton of guitarists like Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, and Yngwie Malmsteen, who tend to focus on making songs that focus on their technical skills. I'll be honest here and say that the appeal dies out pretty quickly for me with most of these musicians because they tend to only offer technical showboating with their music rather than musical compositions that are actually compelling to listen to (especially Malmsteen, I think his music is extremely one-dimensional and rather boring).
Thankfully, Tony MacAlpine has both technical skill and songwriting skill in great abundance. Aside from this, MacAlpine is also a masterful piano and keyboard player, adding more depth to his superb guitar playing. He has evolved throughout his career and mastered so many things along the way.
Here's a sampling of the great things he's done.
I strongly suggest you get the following Tony MacAlpine albums for you to start.
"Maximum Security" (1987)
"Freedom to Fly" (1992)
"Tony MacAlpine" (2011)
