The main reason for getting a netbook is convenience & its pricing. It's compact and light & that places it at high priority for an electronic gadget.

I had originally placed an order for a Dell's Mini 10v online on Dell's website in Canada. I have a Dell Inspiron 1410 which I bought around end 2007 when it was introductory offer at less than US$600 and it's my first Dell which I was very much impressed with its screen and colors and the feel of the keyboards. For that pricing, I'm very satisfied with it. I did buy it in a store in Singapore and not online. So, I've no complain about that so far. I thought I could get a Dell netbook while in Toronto for 4 weeks since it's so much cheaper in North America. Placing the order was no problem. The problem was the order was on hold for more than a week and yet no one took initiative to tell me what's wrong. While checking online to see if my orders were processing right, I found out it was on hold when I called customer service. The problems then began from there onwards. No one clearly knew what had happened and since its customer service has been outsourced to India (my guess from their accent), I was a merry-go-round from then onwards. To make the story simple, I tried for almost 5 days continuously without success getting through to the right person or at times cut off while rerouting. About 5 calls a day & after 5 days of unsuccessful attempts to get to the right department I gave it all up. I canceled the order! It's too much stress!!!

That's when I decide to go to a neighborhood store to get another brand. I would have gotten Dell if they have the same specs but those in the stores I found were still on Windows xP while online it's already Windows 7. That's when I started looking at others. I found some nice ones like Toshiba, Asus & Gateway (design wise). I decided on Toshiba as I like the look of it and also the fact it has a large touch pad. It feels a lot more like a full notebook than a netbook. Went online and checked for some reviews and found other useful and innovative features like:

Sleep & charge USB port (With this feature, you can charge your gadgets on USB port while the computer is sleeping)
6 cell battery. A little chunky but lasts very long, some 8.5 hours
Windows 7 Starter

NB200 in Canada / NB205 in USA

The Verdict?

After using for a week or so, I'm very much happy with it, except for a small inconvenience. The design of it's enter key is a little too far to the right and a little too small. I make quite a few mistake hitting the key next to the Enter key but it's just a matter of getting used to it. I am using the netbook for travels mostly so that won't involve too much typing. If you do type a lot, try to get one that has the "right" keyboard. I know there are a few versions out there depending on which countries you get it from. So, make sure you test it out before buying it. Other than that, I understand many of the potential buyers like it because it has similar keyboard to that of Mac.

The long lasting battery is a boon. It's a 6 cell battery by the way.

All in all, I'm happy with my purchase and would recommend it to anyone who are fashionable and wants to have a netbook that is solid and works well!
