Gone Fishing

This past weekend I had the wonderful opportunity to go fishing. Not just any ol' sit on the dock and chill fishing but twilight bass fishing. The area we went to for twilight fishing was located in Marina Del Rey and the boat goes out to the Santa Monica Bay. I learned that there was a lot of different gamefish such as Halibut, Calico Bass, Barracuda, White Sea Bass, and Yellowtail.

Now as a person who has never really been into fishing,  this was a double treat because I got to experience something that my boyfriend absolutely loves to do and gain some knowledge about the in's and out's of fishing. One of the lessons that I was glad I listened to him about was to wear comfortable warm clothes and shoes that you dont care about because fishing is a messy job. Since I was using live bait it was inevitable to not get blood or fish scales on my hands and clothes. Plus when people cast off sometimes fish juice lands on ya!

At first I was kind of nervous because I didn't know what to do especially since it seemed like I was the only beginner on the boat. Plus it was even more noticeable when  I jumped because my boyfriend put live bait in my hand(sardines) and got a little sad when he hooked it on the line  and its eye popped out. But once he showed me how to hook the bait, cast my line into the wate,  and how to feel if a fish is tugging on the line I began to feel more comfortable. He even laughed at me because I kept trying to cast off and my line would get tangled but I quickly reminded him that if  I was gonna learn how to fish I wanted to learn how to do the whole shabang! By the time the boat was ready to go back in, I felt like I could fish with the best of them even though I didn't catch any fish lol. I still have to work on telling the difference between the motion of the boat and a fish tugging on the line!

This is definitely something that I could see myself doing in the future because it is quite relaxing and exciting. Plus its always nice to take part in things that are important to the people you care about.

Awww, this sounds like a cute date! I would've felt the same way you did about the live sardine bit though. I've only ever seen people use earthworms as fishing bait!

I thought they only used earthworms to , so I was even more surprised when they didnt.

People use earthworms in freshwater. But there is plenty of bait that can be used in both situations.

One of my friends grandma likes to use earthworms with hotsauce on them. Strange combo but he swears the fish eat it up!

Hot sauce?  As in Sriracha or Tabasco?  Weird!!!

As in Tabasco! I guess everyone has their own technique lol!
