Uniden makes really cheap cordless phones, and if your only concern is how much you'll spend, then go ahead and buy one today. But if you're like me and care about reception, range, sound, and battery life, then try another company.

I've bought two different Uniden models over the course of the years. I thought my first one was just kind of defected, so that's why I got the second one a year later. Both phones, it turns out, had limited reception, range, and had really bad sound quality and static. In addition, the battery life from the very beginning was very low. After about half an hour of talking (after a full charge) the phone would start beeping, begging for more juice. Come on!

I've heard that older cordless phones lost battery life if you left them on the charger for too long, and I've been heeding this warning for the longest time. I usually charge overnight, and then let the phone off the charger for the remainder of the day. Even with a full charge, you couldn't even go downstairs if you were on the phone!

A Uniden cordless phone, brand new, can be bought for less than $15 if you know where to shop. But trust me, in my opinion, it's worth it to invest in something a little better that'll last you several years at least.
