An eye-opener

I've enjoyed Melissa Rossi's series of "What Every American Should Know About XXX" over the years. Every single book of hers is an eye opener and unlike the newspapers or magazines, the books reveal the historical timeline of how things become what it is today. It's the most comprehensive literatures for someone who do not even like history and politics to begin with.

Having read at least 3 of her books over the last decade, it has enriched my idea of what is happening in our world, from an expert's point of view. The great thing about these books is how readable they are. In addition, I love the snapshot on each country before she ventures into the details.

Over the last few years, with soaring oil prices, the Middle East countries have been booming and as with every other countries in the world, it is unfair to sum it up by labeling them as an entity and even worse, as "terrorist zone or home". Melissa is great in that way, she directs our attention to how each country differs from one another and how as a whole they have also been mislabeled by the mass media and news reports in America. The readers get the idea that she's fair in her assessment of the region as a whole. That's what I truly like about her books. We don't need another reinforcement of our misinformation. We need to understand why the world is the way it is so that current conflicts can be resolved without much more bloodshed. Without a clear understanding of the underlying motivation of each country, that is almost impossible!

For those authorities and/or officers who are bias in their own ways, if it's their intentions to have a safer and peaceful world, then it pays for them to be familiar with all of the information in this book. Granted, it may not be your usual reading material, but it is one that will change your world. That is the basis of this book, to change our outlook and extreme bias to a more balanced and harmonious level.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the dynamics of the Middle East. Be it if you will be venturing to this region for travels or for businesses. It is a great introduction to a journey that may seem mysterious, exciting or dangerous to you. I wish I had read it before I went to Jordan. In any case, I hope one day I'd get to visit this area again soon!

U.A.E. did an excellent short clip during the Expo. It is interesting to see how far some of the countries in the Middle East have come. Enjoy...
(P.S. The special effects of the show are not obvious here but for those of us who were at the Expo, it was a very impressive showcase of U.A.E.)

Yes. Rossi's books are intelligent read. Your perspective will change a bit after reading her books and it's for the better! She's the first author whom I found materials on politics and economics interesting! Other than perhaps Thomas Friedman from NY Times.

An excellent intelligent about the Middle East and the intricacies and conflicts between countries in the Middle East. Melissa Rossi also demonstrates that political matters need not be boring and how important it is not to believe everything the American media chooses to portray!
