Delicious when not moldy

Dear Whole Foods,

Your valencia oranges are lovely. I buy 3 four pound bags at a time. Seriously. I eat two or three oranges a day and that lasts me a week.

But I am ever so saddened by the fact that your oranges decay into this horrid moldy infectious looking disgustingness in no time at all. They take on the color green and become horribly dusty. Is there any solution? Should I be refrigerating them? Do I need a bigger refrigerator?

I'm ever so frustrated.

Help.

-Will

LOL...I've experienced this same thing (spoiling easily) with other Whole Foods produce. After a couple of attempts, I decided to just go to my local farmer's market.

Hahaha, I get the exact same oranges from Berkeley Bowl and they already refrigerate them in the stores, so I refrigerate them when I get home. I have some that have been there for nearly a week now and are still going strong with no signs of decay! Just gotta keep that organic stuff refrigerated.

Very funny. But, since I'm a mom and I can't help myself from giving advice, you should refrigerate them. From a University of California website: "Commercial growers and handlers can store oranges for 3 to 8 weeks when refrigerated at 38° to 48°F (3° to 9°C), depending on the initial condition of the fruit. Optimum humidity for storage of oranges is 90 to 95%. ... Store the fruit in the crisper drawer of your refrigerator."

I want to give your comment thumbs up. It's disappointing that I can't give you lots of thumbs.
