Life is like a journey with continual trips that we embark on. Imagine taking a once in a lifetime vacation to your dream destination, but you encounter some bad weather. Knowing that you will only be at this destination for one time only, wouldn't it make more sense to make the best of this journey?
We need to view life as what it is, a one time only journey and to value every single moment as an irretrievable experience. Every day that we live, it doesn't matter if it's a happy day or a sad day, it is a day that we must experience, so why not make a mental shift and make it a happy day instead of a sad day for ourselves?
When I was teaching Psychology as a professor at Tamkang University in Taiwan, I used to tell students that the glass can always be viewed as half full or half empty, depending on your mentality. When trapped in a desert without water, person A sees a glass as half full of water and is very happy and excited to be able to drink it, while person B is miserable to see that the glass is only half full, and that he is desperate and sad because there is only half a glass to drink.
Happiness and sadness are merely emotions in your mind and can be guided effectively with positive attitudes.
