Softly, as in a morning sunrise

It's hard to review something so based on personal preference as ground coffee. Objectively, these Yuban beans are packaged perfectly well, the instructions on the side are well-written and helpful, and when I opened the vacuum-locked bag, the seal popped satisfactorily and the beans smelled fresh. Everything else is, literally and figuratively, a matter of taste.

Opening the bag and inhaling deeply, my first thought was "Mmmm ... Folgers." Yuban is a mass-market brand, better known for its big cans than for specialty roasts in small bags. I find that very light roasts like this one work best when you scoop them sparingly -- too much ground coffee for the amount of water you're using and you wind up with what strikes me as an unpleasant, woody taste. Perhaps surprisingly, this Yuban is actually quite similar to the light roast Lavazza sells, a can of which I received on almost the same day as the Yuban came in the door.

Myself, I prefer a little more jazz in my java and so the next morning I mixed in a scoop of dark roast from another vendor with my Yuban and that worked a lot better for me. But for people who like a smooth and unassertive note in their morning coffee, Yuban strikes me as a satisfying way to go. (Plus, they say it's good for the planet or something, if you're into that sort of thing.)

My husband drinks a lot of coffee and I am always on the lookout for a better cup for him. When I received my bag of Yuban Breakfast Coffee, I immediately set up the pot and prepared to have a mid-afternoon break. He found it to be smooth; almost as smooth and mild as the more expensive brand he had been drinking.     He's not at all a fan of flavored coffee but really likes a robust, medium type of coffee which is some way will resemble the coffee with chicory that the used …

My previous experience with Yuban was in Florida some years ago. At that time it was essentially a strong, Cafe Bustello, sort of blend: High on caffeine, dark roast with fairly high acidity. Apparently since they were purchased by Kraft, they have broadened their spectrum to include a Breakfast Blend that I find fairly comparable to Star Bucks and Maxwell House (Kraft's other brand).    The Breakfast Blend, as you would expect, is a light roast, smooth and non-acidic. I liked …

I am only an occasional drinker of coffee, but my wife Kathy must have two cups in the morning to get rolling. Therefore, I recruited her assistance in evaluating this product. I prefer coffee that is mild, smooth and without bitterness. This blend met all those criteria, for me, it supplied the right amount of coffee taste without being too strong. If this blend is available, I will certainly drink more coffee than I have in the past.    Lately, Kathy has grown fond of drinking flavored …

Yuban is a smooth, nice, flavorful coffee. Of the mass market brand coffees it is one of the best I've had. It has no bitterness and I was pleasantly surprised by it when I tried my first cup. My wife, who doesn't like coffee very much even likes it, which is definite plus in its favor.    This is the mild blend but it still has a reasonably robust flavor. I tend to like stronger coffee and will try some of Yuban's stronger blends.    Also note, Yuban is organic …

If I were to coin a phrase to describe a character who was not only weak willed, but also on the shady side I'd call him a "weak cup of coffee." For instance, I'd call Freddy Corleone a "weak cup of coffee." Or maybe I'd call a weak cup of coffee a Freddy Corleone. Either way...    I suspected I was in trouble with this eco-sensitive Yuban just by the packaging. It fills all the requirements of being an "eco-cliche." The palette is brown and green, and the cover photo is of a …

Since I use a French press, I am always looking for a mild blend for morning coffee that will not leave a strong chemical taste after the first cup. This particular sample is "mild" (medium and bold also available), so I thought this might be the perfect selection for me. I wasn't disappointed- the flavor is rich, the aroma fresh. A blend of Arabica beans from Latin America, this mild Breakfast Blend is excellent for those who do not need a jolt of caffeine to face the day. For those in my family …

I was actually surprised that this coffee was as good as it was.    I am a bit of a coffee snob and drink Kona, Jamacian Blue Mountain, Ethiopian Coffee and the like. So I know a good cup of joe. While not the best, this Yuban was actually pretty decent. It is a very mild coffee with low acidity, and if that suites your tastes, then you would probably like this.    I prefer something with a little more "punch" and flavor, but would not mind drinking this if …

Yuban Breakfast Blend Ground Coffee is, for lack of a better word, sufficient. If you've been brave enough to drink the coffee in your motel room, you pretty much know how this stuff tastes. While trying it, I made it two ways: 1) By following the directions on the package and 2) the way I normally make coffee. By following the package instructions, I found that the coffee, while moderately smooth, had an average taste with just a tad bit of bitterness to it. It did get better as it cooled down, …

The new Yuban Breakfast blend is pretty much what I expected. I've had Yuban coffee before, and my previous experiences were nothing to write home about. So, the same goes for this bag. I was hoping it was something new and special... but no, it's just something new. Here's the "sweet and low" on this product:    Sweet:   - Smooth flavor... especially if you like your coffee with milk.    - Rain Forest Alliance coffee    - No …
