Boston Homicide Detective D.D. Warren is approached by a woman who wants D.D. to investigated her murder when she is killed in four days.
The woman states that on Jan. 21st at 8:00 pm, in the last two years, her best friends have been murdered and now it's her turn. She doesn't think that she can do anything to prevent it so she wants D.D. to find the killer.
A parallel story involves D.D. and her unit investigating a number of murders of pedophiles. This is told against the happiness that D.D. has with being a new mother and experiencing motherhood.
The tension mounts as the deadline draws near and we wonder who the killer is and if they can be stopped.
Gardner adds a number of plot twists which keep the reader guessing and adds to the entertainment value of the novel.
I enjoyed the twists and turns of the plot and felt that the characters were well described.
